Collar Fitting
The best thing to do to make sure that your dog's gorgeous new collar fits them like a glove is to measure before you buy. Use a tailors tape measure (or a piece of string that you can then measure with a ruler or metal tape measure) and measure around the base of your dog's neck. Make sure there is two fingers gap between the neck and the tape so that your dog will be super comfortable.
All of our collars are measured from the base of the buckle to the first and last hole so for example the smallest neck size on the mini collar would be 20cm and the largest size on the mini collar would be 26cm.
Please note that due to all of our collars being handmade, the sizing may vary slightly, but we are talking a couple of mm. If your dogs neck goes across two sizes, we recommend taking a size up, as always if you have any queries on sizing please get in touch.
Product Care
Our Beddington Collars and Leads are made using the finest Oak Bark tanned leather which is treated with fats (mainly dubbin and fish oils) to give it its exquisite quality and finish. Over time and with use these fats come out of the leather leaving it dry and it will lose its strength and suppleness. This will happen in a dry environment and also if the leather gets wet.
When new or left unused for some time, you may notice a white bloom or surface residue. This can easily be removed by vigorous brushing with a horsehair polishing brush.
If your Distinguished Dog Company collar or lead gets wet, blot the excess water and dry it flat away from direct heat. Once dry, we recommend applying Renapur Leather Balsam. The balm cleans, nourishes, conditions, restores, polishes and helps waterproof leather, restoring original softness and extending its life.
If the leather gets muddy, wipe with a warm cloth and leave to dry flat away from direct heat. Once dry, apply some Renapur Leather Balsam.
The hardware is made from top quality brass and copper which will dull over time and use. In order to keep this looking tip-top, give it a clean with Brasso being sure to avoid the leather and it will make it shine once again.
